Farm News – July 22, 2024

Hi All! We finally received some substantial precipitation last week. In total nearly two inches of the wet stuff fell – a torrential downpour in the afternoon and then more heavy rain overnight. More than we would have liked of course, but we are accustomed to the ā€œfeast or famineā€ nature of the weather these days. (more…)

Howdy Folks,

Summer has officially ended and with it go the warm weather crops. The tomatoes are definitely over for the season; the peppers should continue producing for a few more weeks. The eggplants are full of small fruit but they are sizing up very slowly. (more…)

2023 Registration

Happy winter everyone! It is time to register for the 2023 CSA season!Ā  Ā Know your farmer. Know your food.

CSAĀ stands forĀ Community Supported Agriculture. Ā CSA members pre-pay for ā€œsharesā€ in a local organic farm at theĀ beginning of the season in March when the farmer most needs the money. Then during the harvest from June through November, the farmer delivers a weekly assortment ofĀ vegetables, herbs, and some fruit.

100% of your food dollars go to the person who is growing it. You support sustainable, local agriculture and get freshly picked organic produce at reasonable prices.Ā  In addition, you know the farmer growing your vegetables and can visit the farm ā€“ establishing a personal connection with your food supply. Farm News – November 4, 2019

Hello Folks! So, that was quite a storm we had last week! We had nearly 3 inches of rain, which has set us back a bit with some of our fall chores such as sowing cover crop seed and planting the garlic. But the worst part of it was the wind, which blew through here like a freight train from hell. Fortunately and amazingly, we did not suffer much damage other than having the fences for our hens blow down and finding birds scattered all around the fields the next morning. They were safe in their coops overnight but there are automatic openers on the doors which let them out in the morning, and when they emerged they found that they were free to roam. (more…)

Westfield CSA accepting applications for 2016 season!

It’s time to sign up for the 2016Ā season!

Why Join a CSA?Ā  First and foremost, you buildĀ a relationship with a real person who works hard to bring you fresh produce every week; Ā You saveĀ gas by not flying in your produce from California (or other countries), you keepĀ a small farmer in business, you help keep land undeveloped, and you keepĀ toxic chemicals off the land by supporting organic farming.Ā  You also got to see the face of your food and eat a variety of fresh, local, organic produce!

Ā Know your farmer.Ā  Know your food.

Did you know that John spends over $30,000 on seeds each year?Ā  When we pay ahead of the season, John can pay for his seeds without having to pay interest on his credit card bills.

The price structure for the 2016Ā season remains the same as in previous years, but with a late fee for last minute signups:

  • $625 if paid in full by March 1
  • $650 if paid in full by AprilĀ 30
  • $675Ā on or after May 1 (subject to availability)

You can put down a non-refundable deposit of $200 to save your share. Ā If you have extenuating circumstances and need to work out a payment plan we can work with you.

Email westfieldcsa@gmail.comĀ for more information or click here to download an application form.

As before, you can split a share with someone else. If you need help finding someone to split with, let us know and we will pair you up as I get requests!

Returning members will be guaranteed a spot in the CSA if registered by Feb 6. After that registration is first come, first served.

Share this information with anyone who may be interested in joining the Westfield Area CSA!
