Farm News- July 10, 2008

Hi Folks,

It was another hectic week at the farm, but a lot was accomplished. One of the major projects that has been worrying me for the last several weeks was the laying of a waterline 500 ft. across horse paddocks, to get water to the crops planted in my newly rented field. There are eggplant, peppers, ground cherries, melons, and other crops planted in this field in plastic mulch covered beds. (more…)

Farm News August 21, 2008

Hi Folks,

The mild summer weather continues, leaving me with little to complain about on that front! We could use some rain though, as the scattered thunderstorms we experienced this past week came and went quickly and served only to interrupt our field work. Much of the crew’s time this week was again spent on bean picking. (more…)

Farm News – October 30, 2014

Hi Everyone, We had a nice group of folks out here on the farm last Saturday for a tour and a campfire. It’s always a pleasure to meet the members and especially the children that are being raised on our veggies. Thanks to those who came out on Sunday and helped break apart garlic bulbs to prepare them for planting. These were the last two farm events for the season. Next year I plan to host more events and provide more frequent opportunities for members to see the farm and learn how their food is grown. (more…)

Howdy Folks,

Summer has officially ended and with it go the warm weather crops. The tomatoes are definitely over for the season; the peppers should continue producing for a few more weeks. The eggplants are full of small fruit but they are sizing up very slowly. (more…)

Circle Brook Fruit Share 2016

We will once again offer a fruit share for the 2016 season. It will be a slightly shorter season (12 weeks) and comes with some caveats.  All of the local fruit producers have had a very bad season due to late frosts and freezes in the spring.  Many have lost their entire crop of plums and apricots and have had significant losses with peaches and nectarines.  Normally most of the fruit we distribute comes from an organic farm in the Hudson Valley, NY.  While the farm grows their vegetable crops organically, the fruit is labeled Eco-grown.  This means that they adhere as much as possible to organic methods but do spray when necessary with products not approved for organic production.  These sprays are primarily early in the season when the fruit is just setting.  The farm regularly tests the fruit to insure it is free of pesticide residues. Sign up this week for Fruit Shares!

We will once again offer a fruit share for the 2014 season! We will soon begin planting a variety of fruit trees, bushes and brambles. In coming years I expect to produce most, if not all the crops for a fruit share. But for now, most of the fruit we distribute will come from an organic farm in the Hudson Valley, NY. (more…)

Sign up for Fruit Shares!

We will once again offer a fruit share for the 2015 season!

The share will consist of 2 types of tree fruit each week with an average of 5-7 lbs. total weight.  We will begin the season with blueberries, peaches, plums, and nectarines. During those weeks when we send blueberries and kiwi the total weight will be less as these are high priced items.

The fall fruit shares will be comprised of different varieties of apples and pears each week and hopefully some organic hardy kiwi from PA at the end of September.  The season will run for 14 weeks beginning the week of July 19 and ending in October. We may skip one week at the end of August.

The cost of the fruit share will be $15 per week which equals $210 for the season.
