Pumpkins
We all are familiar with the big orange pumpkins that are evident everywhere this time of year. But did you know that there are different types of pumpkins?
Some are purely decorative, and others are good for eating. If you try to use a carving pumpkin for your pumpkin pie, you will be sorely disappointed. Pumpkins are members of the squash family. If you are interested in pumpkins for cooking, be sure to get one that is bred for flavor, not decorating. Alternatively, most orange fleshed winter squash will work as an alternative for pumpkin in many recipes.
