Farm News – October 20, 2025

Hello Folks! As we head into the final weeks of the season we will be relying on the cool weather crops-spinach, brassicas, greens in the mustard family, as well as root crops and storage crops like potatoes and winter squash. We may double up on the root vegetables and there may be both regular potatoes and sweet potatoes in a share. Since the frost, which killed the vines, we have been busy harvesting the sweet potatoes and we have a nice crop. There are a lot of tubers to dig, and we would love to have help with the harvest.

We did not have a great garlic crop this season and much of the onion crop spoiled in storage. I have been buying hundreds of lbs. of seed garlic to increase our planting and ensure a better crop next season. We will be counting on leeks and scallions to fill the allium category in the shares for the next few weeks. All farming seasons have their challenges, but this year has brought more than most.

I love to have members visit the farm, but there have not been many opportunities for volunteer days, or farm visits this year. We will be offering a few chances to visit during the waning days of the season. I know that it is short notice, but I hope some of you will be able to take advantage of the opportunity to visit.

The share will be: Kale, choice of arugula, tatsoi or broccoli raab, peppers, baby bok choi, parsnips, choice of cilantro or thyme, salad turnips, acorn squash, scallions, cauliflower, and orange sweet potatoes. Premium shares will also include Swiss chard and sunchokes.

This week we are sending a half fruit share of Bosc pears.  The mushroom share is oysters.
