Farm News – July 7, 2025

Hi Everyone! We had a few heavy rains over the past week, which set me back some with my planting schedule – other than that the weather has been acceptable. I was finally able to plant the last of the winter squash and pumpkins this morning. These crops need 3+ months to grow and mature, so I have been up against the end of the planting window. I am also running out of time to plant sweet corn, which has a similar “days to maturity” number.
We are still heavy on lettuce, so two heads are better than one (I hope!). As we head into the summer the solanaceous crops will become more predominant in the shares. This week we add eggplant to the lineup. Soon there will be peppers and potatoes and finally the tomatoes, tomatillos, and ground cherries. The early week groups will receive cauliflower again this week and we will make it up to the rest in a week or two when another planting heads up.
The share will be: Lettuce, chard, choice of kale or collards, bok choy, choice of salad turnips or beets, sweet onions, Napa cabbage, eggplant, summer squash, cucumbers, and choice of herbs (dill, cilantro, parsley, summer savory). Premium shares will also include radicchio and spinach.
There will be a flower share this week, maybe some sunflowers, but most likely snapdragons. The mushroom shares will all be oyster mushrooms. There will be peaches and cherries for the fruit share.
Enjoy! Farmer John
