Farm News – June 28, 2021
Hello Folks! So, we are in the second heat wave of the season – three more scorching days to endure before it breaks on Thursday. Fortunately, there is a fair amount of moisture in the soil, so our crops should not be affected too much. I can’t believe we are in the fourth week of deliveries already. I guess time flies when you’re working hard as well!
The shares just keep getting better every week. Our broccoli has been producing nice large heads, so there will be another round for everyone. I know that I promised fresh garlic for this week, but our fresh sweet onions are ready and will not wait. Use them promptly, as they are not good keepers. The tops can be used to make soup stock if you are feeling ambitious. We have some beautiful beets for you; remove the tops to use or discard if you want to store the roots. And the cucumbers are coming in fast. Eggplant and peppers will be starting in a week or two, and tomatoes soon – though not soon enough!
The share for this week will be: Lettuce, spinach, kale, peas (sugar snap and snow), broccoli, summer squash, beets, sweet onions, Swiss chard, and choice of an herb (parsley, Marjoram, cilantro, or dill). Premium shares will also include fennel, a second bunch of spinach and a second herb.
The fruit share for this week will be: NJ organic blueberries and NY eco-grown cherries.
Enjoy! Farmer John
