Farm News – July 8, 2024
Hello everyone! First the weather – it’s too damn hot! The good news is that we had a nice rain last Friday night – almost an inch. Of course, it began as I was riding my seeding tractor up and down seedbeds planting carrots. I had three beds to finish, when the first round of storms chased me out of the field. It’s a trick I’ve developed over the years to bring on the showers, my personal rain dance!
We have all been waiting on the Solanaceous crops – peppers, potatoes, eggplant, and especially tomatoes. This week the first two appear on the menu – potatoes and eggplant. We have a little more spinach for you until it returns in the fall. We are still in rotation with the broccoli and cauliflower, so expect whichever of these you did not receive last time.
The share will be: Zucchini, lettuce, cucumbers, sweet onions, spinach, “Red Thumb” fingerling potatoes, beets, scallions, broccoli or cauliflower, choice of an herb. Premium shares will include fennel and a second herb.
No fruit share for this week, as we wait for more local fruit to come in. There will be a flower share.
Enjoy! Farmer John
