Farm News – October 28, 2024
Hi Everyone, Happy Halloween! Does anyone remember the year that it snowed on Halloween? Well, you won’t have to worry about that, this year – it seems we will be hitting eighty degrees on Thursday! I was planning on not mentioning the weather this writing, but I just couldn’t do it. It seems that the general public is beginning to realize just how dry it has been – I heard a DJ on the radio mention that there has been no significant precipitation in October. He still insisted that it was beautiful weather, but that maybe we could use some rain. Forty percent chance on Friday, fingers crossed.
For some reason we have a lot of white veggies in the share this week – parsnips, cauliflower, salad turnips, and white sweet potatoes. Let’s just say we were inspired by the ghosts that predominate this spooky holiday! There is a fair amount of greenery as well and the winter squash of the week – buttercup is a beautiful orange inside.
The share will be: spinach, parsnips, choice of arugula, tatsoi, or broccoli raab, salad turnips, cauliflower, lettuce, bok choi, green cabbage, white sweet potatoes, buttercup (kabocha) squash and choice of an herb (parsley, cilantro, thyme). The premium shares will also include escarole and a few small green peppers – the last of the season.
The fruit share will be: Stayman apples and Barlett pears.
Enjoy! Farmer John
