Farm News – July 21, 2025

Hi Folks! So, how do you know when summer is in full swing? When your CSA share contains peppers, sweet corn, and TOMATOES! Yippee! The peppers and tomatoes are just getting started, so there will not be a huge quantity, but they will be more abundant with each passing week. The sweet corn ears are smallish – typical of the early varieties. We are hoping for a second planting to begin to mature for the end of the week. If the ears are not ready in time, we will substitute fingerling potatoes and make it up next week.
We are also awaiting the second bean planting to come on strong, so if you do not receive them this week, you will the next. Another dry week on the farm… I drove through several downpours while running errands on Sunday but came home to find the farm untouched by precipitation. The well pumps are running day and night.
The share will be (drum roll please!): Lettuce, Swiss chard, summer squash, beets, eggplant, peppers, sweet corn, cukes, yellow onions, beans, and choice of an herb (parsley, thyme, mint). Premium shares will also include scallions and kale.
We expect to have mixed bouquets and sunflowers for the flower share. The mushrooms will be yellow oyster. No fruit for this week, as we wait for more local product to become available.
Bon Appetit! Farmer John
