Farm News – August 30, 2021

Hi everyone, Rain, rain, rain! What can you say? It is what it is, and anyway how can we complain, when there are so many other parts of the country that are getting hurt much worse. The farm is a muddy mess, and we are seeing various crops being damaged or killed by the weather conditions, but we will get through it, and we will still have plenty of great produce for you and your family.

Zucchini is one of the crops that has suffered, but we have spaghetti squash to replace it. We are having a mad year for melons, but the watermelons are sweet and abundant. The tomato crop is taking a hit, but we will still be able to keep them coming for another few weeks. And the sweet corn is finally abundant enough for everyone to receive this week, with the caveat that there may be an earworm on the tip. It’s just the way it is with organic, non-GMO sweet corn. So, husk it outside, cut the tip off or have someone not so squeamish prepare it. It’s really tasty; I assure you that it is worth the hassle!

The share for this week will be: Kale, lettuce, leeks, beans, spaghetti squash, red cabbage, carrots, peppers, tomatoes, sweet corn, watermelons, and choice of an herb (cilantro, dill, or basil). For extras there will be tomatillos, hot peppers, and okra. Premium shares will also include radishes and a second herb.

The fruit share for this week will be: Zestar apples and nectarines.
