Chinese Meatballs in Lettuce Leaves


1 lb ground chicken or turkey
½ yellow onion, minced
½ poblano or cubanelle pepper, minced
1 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice powder
½ cup fresh cilantro leaves
2 scallions or 1⁄2 bunch of fresh chives, chopped
Soy Vey brand hoison garlic sauce
Fresh lettuce leaves


Heat oven to 350°F.

Saute onion and pepper in a tablespoon of olive oil or vegetable oil until soft, 4 minutes. Remove from heat, let cool a few minutes

In a bowl, mix meat with onion, pepper and 1 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice powder

With wet hands, form small meatballs

Place meatballs in an oiled ovenproof pan and brush with Soy Vey Bake 10 minutes, remove from oven, turn meatballs over and brush again with Soy Vey

Bake 10 more minutes, remove from oven, brush one more time with Soy Vey and let meatballs rest on stovetop, 5 minutes

While meatball rest, layout lettuce leaves on a platter, add a pinch of scallion and a few cilantro leaves to each lettuce leaf

Place one meatball in each lettuce leaf and serve

Eat with fingers by wrapping up the meatball in the lettuce leaf.
