Hi Folks, We had a great start to the season, with many greens and unusually bountiful shares. As we head into mid-summer, greens generally become more scarce, and in this accelerated season we arrived at this point sooner than normal. (more…)

Hi Everyone! We have not had much rain this past week, but at least the temperatures have been moderate. We have a few chances for precipitation during the week ahead, which would be appreciated. We add another member of the Solanums to the line up this week – peppers. We will be sending green ones for the next few weeks until they begin to ripen to red, yellow, and orange. (more…)

Farm News – August 28, 2017

Hi Folks, So I have some good news and some bad news; which would you like first?  The bad news you say; well it seems we will have a short melon season.  The rain was just too much for these delicate plants — the first planting did not produce a second crop and the second planting is probably not going to produce much of anything.  The watermelons are a little hardier and we will be trying to get some to all groups that have not yet received any, over the next 3 weeks or so.  The good news is that we are back in lettuce harvest mode, and should have it in the shares for most of the rest of the season.  We are also beginning to pick from the second planting of beans, so beans should be abundant for the next month. Farm News – June 26, 2014

Hello Everyone, summer has officially arrived and with it our first heat wave of the season. The hot weather was beneficial for the summer crops like tomatoes and peppers but a bit stressful for the cool weather plants. Cool weather crops like lettuce, radicchio, spinach, and the mustards (arugula, tatsoi, mizuna etc.) react to this stress by bolting. This is the reproductive mode of the plant whereby it stretches out and sends up a flower stalk. (more…)

Soft-Cooked Summer Squash With Onion

Soft-Cooked Summer Squash with Onion

From the Washington Post, here’s a delicious summer squash and onion dish. The variety to use here is the pale yellow crookneck squash, but yellow zucchini (or a mix of green and yellow zucchini) will also be fine. Small to medium-size squash work best.  Because they typically contain less water and fewer seeds, they will contribute more flavor and texture to the dish. Serves 4.

Farm News- November 13, 2008

Well, we have reached the end of another season and none too soon for my workers and I. We are all quite exhausted and at present chilled to the bone. Washing potatoes and root vegetables during these cold days is quite taxing. (more…)

Hi Folks,

This will be a brief update since I am late in writing it. My computer died last week and after determining that it was not worth fixing, today I purchased a new one. Between setting it up, learning my way around a different operating system, and getting the farm work done, it’ been a hectic day. (more…)

Hey Folks! “The sky is crying, Can’t you see the tears roll down the street” – Elmore James

So, we just can’t seem to get two days in a row without the heavens opening up on us! Oh well, we just have to tough it out and do the best we can. The farm is a muddy mess with puddles and deep ruts in the roads. Hopefully we will dry out soon. (more…)
